Fire Advisory - April 16, 2025

Posted on

Effective April 16, 2025, at 3:30 P.M. and until further notice, the Town of Edson has issued a Fire Advisory due to dry, windy conditions and increased fire hazards.

Landowners and industry members are strongly encouraged to inspect any previously burned piles from the winter to confirm they are fully extinguished.

This is due to the current and forecast weather and winds. The windy conditions have elevated the dry grass hazard in the region.

Existing permits will remain valid, and new permit requests will still be approved on a case-by-case basis, but no heavy fuel permits will be issued.

Backyard fires are allowed only in fire pits that are approved with proper permitting. CSA-approved natural gas and propane appliances designed for cooking or heating, such as barbecues, heaters and fire pits, and solid fuel BBQS, such as pellet and charcoal, are allowed.

Edson Fire Department reminds residents to be cautious when using smoking materials and to dispose of cigarette butts only in appropriate metal containers with water or sand. Never throw cigarette butts out the window of a vehicle or building, and do not extinguish them in flowerpots or planters.

While fires are still allowed, a fire ban may be implemented if conditions worsen. We ask everyone to do their part in reducing the risk. Please be extra cautious when using your fire pit or a solid fuel BBQ, such as charcoal briquettes or pellets.

Follow these guidelines:

• Ensure all wood-burning firepits are used in compliance with the Town of Edson Guidelines.

• Always use a screen spark arrestor with wood-burning fire pits.

• Fully extinguish firepits and solid fuel BBQS before leaving them unattended.

• Properly dispose of smoking materials (cannabis, cigarettes, cigars, matches, or lighters).
