EFD Release - Vegetation Fire

Posted on

On Thursday, April 17th, at 1640hrs, Edson Fire was dispatched to a vegetation/brush fire adjacent to 63rd Street, on the airport's North side.

Edson Fire responded with two structural engines, a wildland engine, a side-by-side, a water tender, and three command units. Mutual aid was immediately requested from Alberta Wildfire, who dispatched an intermediate helicopter for anticipated bucketing operations. Crews also had support from Town of Edson Community Peace Officers and RCMP.

Crews worked to knock down the fire using the side-by-side unit and hand pump water packs. 63rd Street was shut down so crews could set up a portable water tank to provide a water source for the helicopter. Thanks to a change in wind conditions, the helicopter was not needed, and ground crews were able to contain the fire. A hoseline was also extended in from the road to ensure a full extinguishment.

The fire has been deemed as human caused, but unintentional.
