Updates & Rate Reduction Coming Soon

Big changes are coming to how recycling is managed across Alberta—and it means savings for Edson residents.
The Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), under the direction of the Government of Alberta, has launched a new province-wide Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program. This initiative shifts the cost and responsibility of recycling from municipalities to the producers of recyclable materials, with the goal of reducing waste at the source.
While EPR is new to Alberta, similar programs have been successfully implemented in other provinces such as Ontario and British Columbia. Alberta has drawn from these examples to shape its own approach.
As part of this transition, Council recently approved a motion to pass cost savings on to residential recycling customers. Residents will see their recycling service charge reduced from $11.23/month to $7.25/month starting with their April utility invoice, which will be mailed out in May.
Please note: This change currently applies only to residential recycling materials. Commercial accounts are not impacted at this time.
The Town of Edson continues to provide recycling services through the Edson & District Recycling Society. This rate reduction is a positive step toward a more sustainable and cost-effective future for both our community and the province.
