Shaping Edson’s Housing Future: We Need Your Input

The Town of Edson is developing a Housing Strategy to ensure our community has a diverse, affordable, and sustainable mix of housing options for current and future residents.
Why a Housing Strategy?
While Edson’s population has remained stable at around 8,400 residents (2021 Census), the demand for a variety of housing types is growing. Most homes in Edson are single-detached houses, but there is an increasing need for alternative housing options for renters and owners at different affordability levels. A mix of housing types is essential for a diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.
What’s Involved?
The Housing Strategy consists of two phases:

Housing Needs Assessment (Completed in Fall 2024):
- Community demographics
- Current housing supply and demand
- Condition of existing homes
- Rental vacancy rates
- Affordability and market gaps
- Future housing projections

Developing the Housing Strategy (Current Phase):
- Identifying key housing challenges in Edson
- Developing policies and actions to address local housing needs
- Exploring partnership opportunities
- Creating an implementation plan with clear priorities and performance measures
This plan is being shaped with community input, and we want to make sure your voice is heard.

We’re now in Phase 2: Developing Housing Actions, and we want to ensure we’ve accurately captured the community’s feedback and priorities. Your input will help shape Edson’s housing future.
