Hazard Reduction Burning

Posted on

Hazard reduction burning will be taking place north of Hillendale starting Tuesday, April 15th(weather and resource dependent).

Hazard reduction burning is a vital wildfire mitigation strategy, especially helpful during the spring dip—a period when vegetation moisture is at its lowest and fire risk is significantly heightened. By conducting controlled burns, accumulated dead vegetation, leaf litter, and underbrush are safely reduced, which decreases the available fuel for potential wildfires.

Residents may notice some smoke in the area during burning hours, and while we understand this can be stressful for some, we want to assure residents that this is a controlled burn, and all precautions are being taken to ensure safety.

This burn is being fully monitored and manned by members of the Edson Fire Department, AB Wildfire, and Trans Mountain.
