Yellowhead Agricultural Society Funding Request. Council has approved a funding request of $300,000 for the Yellowhead Agricultural Society’s Arena Project to be funded through the revenue sharing reserve in the Town’s 2024 Operating Budget.
2023 Disaster Recovery Program Update. Administration presented an update on the Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) in response to the wildfires and flooding in 2023. During the wildfires, the Town incurred initial expenditures of over $1.3 million. Under the DRP Program, the Town has requested an advance reimbursement of 50% of the recovery costs. For the flooding, the current and planned expenditures are estimated at just over $1 million. Again, a 50% advance reimbursement request will be submitted to the Province. For each DRP, the Town has 3 years to submit all claims and, ultimately, 90% of the eligible recovery expenditures will be paid out through the program.
Letters have been circulated to the community providing a claim submission reminder for those who qualify for funding under the Disaster Recovery Program for the June Floods. The deadline to apply is February 26, 2024, and it covers uninsured losses. It is important to note private sector claimants (residents) can only make one claim per property. This is for the lifetime of the property and includes subsequent owners.

Library Board Appointment. Council has appointed one additional member to the Edson Public Library Board. All vacancies have been filled on the Board.
Motion out of Closed Session – Grant Allocation. Council has directed Administration to proceed with submitting a grant application to the Alberta Environment and Protected Area Grant Funding Allocation as discussed in closed session.
Next meetings – The next Council Meeting is scheduled for February 6th, 2024, at 7:00 pm, in Council Chambers.
