When to Contact Enforcement Services vs. RCMP
Posted onWe have received numerous inquiries from residents seeking clarification on when to contact Enforcement Services versus the RCMP. This is an important question, as both services collaborate and sometimes overlap in their duties.
Enforcement Services:
The Town of Edson Community Peace Officers are responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws, including those related to animal control, nuisance properties, traffic issues (such as parking complaints and abandoned vehicles), and other town-specific bylaws. While the RCMP can address these matters, their primary responsibilities lie in other areas, and non-emergency cases are typically referred to Bylaw Services by the RCMP.

They are also responsible for handling found property, which is then shared with the RCMP for verification to determine whether items have been stolen.
Animal Control:
Enforcement Services primarily addresses issues concerning domestic animals (e.g., dogs and cats). For concerns related to wildlife or non-domestic animals that pose a risk to residents, please contact Fish and Wildlife.
