Letter of Support Request - CEAT. The Community Engagement Action Team (CEAT) presented their plan to revitalize the Westhaven Rink, converting it to a multi-sport court space that could be used year-round. They are requesting a letter of support from Council to apply for a Community Facility Enhancement Program Grant from the Province to help fund the project. Funding is also coming from Healthier Together, Eddie’s Big Run, Youth Interagency, and in-kind donations from local businesses. 

Edson RCMP Presentation. Edson Staff Sergeant Christian Delisle presented 2024 year-end stats from the Edson RCMP detachment, as well as reviewed the 2025-2026 Policing Priorities. The priorities include a focus on Property Crime, Community Contact, and Drugs. 

FireSmart Grant. Council authorized the Mayor to sign a letter of support for the 2025 Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) FireSmart Vegetation Management Grant. The grant would fund FireSmart treatment to assist in mitigating wildfire risk in the community. If approved, the work would be focussed on the forested area just west and south of Hillendale, around the Skate Park, west of the snow dump, and north of the airport. 

Municipal Policing Committee. Under the new Police Amendment Act, municipalities are mandated to participate in either a Regional Policing Committee or to create their own Municipal Policing Committee. Council has opted to apply for Ministerial approval to create a separate Municipal Policing Committee for the Town of Edson. 

2024 Carry Forward Projects. Council has approved the 2024 Operating and Capital carry forward projects list. These projects are carried over from the 2024 budget to be completed in the 2025 year.

RCMP Q3 Reports. Council has accepted the RCMP Q3 report and statistics as information. 

Rural Renewal Stream – Notice of Motion. Council approved the waving of notice for the Notice of Motion to allow the item to be discussed at this Council Meeting. The original motion to terminate the Rural Renewal Stream Program for the Town of Edson was defeated. A new motion was passed to proceed with the Rural Renewal Stream Program with amendments including, proof of residency requirements, wage alignment with Government of Alberta Provincial Guidelines, and employment limits. Next meetings—The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for March 11, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers. The next Town Council Meeting is scheduled for March 18, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers.
