Draft Land Use Bylaw. A Public Hearing was held for Draft Land Use Bylaw No. 2296 (LUB) with three (3) registered speakers opposed and one (1) written submission in opposition of the Bylaw. A motion to amend the LUB to reduce the size of Security Suites to 70m2 was defeated. A motion to remove Security Suites as a discretionary use in the BI-2, Business Industrial Major District was also defeated. Council passed second and third reading of Bylaw No. 2296 in recorded votes. Both were passed 6-1 with Councillor Cacka opposed. 

The updated bylaw will be posted on the Town of Edson website in the coming days.        

West Yellowhead Regional Assessment Review Board. Council has appointed Rhonda Morgan (Jasper) at the Designated Clerk for the West Yellowhead Regional Assessment Review Board for a 1-year term. Council has also appointed Leigh Beamish (Hinton) as the Designated Chair of the Board for a 1-year term. As a member of the Board, each Council is required to jointly appoint the Designated Clerk and Chair, which are assigned on a rotating basis. 

Oilers Support Declaration. Council has unanimously passed a motion to declare Edson as an official supporter of the Edmonton Oilers and to encourage all residents and businesses to show their support during the cup run, including wearing Oilers apparel on game days. 

Next meetings – A Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for June 11, 2024, at 7:00 pm, in Council Chambers. The next Town Council Meeting is scheduled for June 18, 2024, at 7:00 pm, in Council Chambers.
