Sidewalk Clearing

Posted on

Keep your sidewalks safe this winter!

The Town of Edson Protective Services Department wants to remind residents about the importance of shoveling snow this winter.

Snow and ice covered sidewalks play a big role in a majority of winter injuries in Canada.

To combat this problem, residents are responsible for clearing the entire width of the sidewalk down to the bare pavement, no more than 48 hours after a snowfall, as per The Community Standards Bylaw. Sand and/or salt need to be applied to sidewalks immediately after a freeze-thaw cycle.

Please do not shovel snow onto streets since it can contribute to unsafe road conditions, impedes storm water flow, and can delay street clearing. Also, do not shovel snow onto neighboring properties.

Those who do not comply with the Community Standards could face a fine of $150 and could be charged with clean up costs as well.

If you have a concern about an uncleared sidewalk, call Enforcement Services at 825-605-5432 or use the Town of Edson Mobile App’s Report-a-Problem feature. Report-a-Problem is also available through the website at https://www.edson.ca/services/report-a-problem.
