Development Plans. Second and third reading of Intermunicipal Development Plan Bylaw 2306 (IDP), Municipal Development Plan Bylaw 2307 (MDP), and Bench Creek Area Structure Plan Bylaw 2309 (ASP) have passed.

Yellowhead Gas Co-op Franchise Fee. All three readings of the Yellowhead Gas Co-op Ltd. Natural Gas Distribution Franchise Agreement Bylaw have been passed. The previous agreement had lapsed, and a new agreement has been created with the same rate of 5.26% for 2024. This will now be reviewed annually as outlined in the Franchise Fee Policy.

Public Auction Date. Approval was given to set the public auction date for recovery of unpaid property taxes for November 19, 2024.

EVentures EZIP Funding. Council has authorized Mayor Zahara to sign a letter of support for the EVentures program with ATCO as the chosen contractor for the operation of an Electric Vehicle DC Fast Charger at 223 55th Street if grant funding is approved. The EVentures program is a community-driven, collaborative initiative with the objective of building a Level 3 (DC Fast Charger) EV charging network across the rural region of northwest Alberta.

Vision Park Funding. Approval was given to transfer just over $1.6 million from the Vision Park Reserve to complete the Vision Park ball diamonds for all user groups. The funding will allow for the completion of the five (5) diamonds built last year, the replacing the playground equipment, and converting two (2) existing slo-pitch diamonds into baseball diamonds.

Rail Safety Week Proclamation. September 23-29, 2024, has been proclaimed as Rail Safety Week in the Town of Edson. CN Statistics state more than 2,100 North Americans are killed or seriously injured each year due to unsafe behaviour around tracks and trains.

10 Ave Sanitary Upgrade Project. While repairing a sinkhole, crews discovered issues with previously installed sanitary lines and their connection to the storm system along 10th Avenue. To prevent further issues, Council has agreed to stop the 10th Avenue project at the current stage and add the remaining portion to next year’s project. This is subject to contract review and would allow for further investigation and to add sanitary repairs to the scope of the project.
