Leisure Centre Statutory Holiday Schedule. Council has approved the 2024-25 statutory holiday schedule for the Edson and District Leisure Centre (EDLC), including offering free access to the facility on Family Day.
Enhanced Communication for Emergency Services. Council allocated an additional $120,000 to the 2024 Capital Budget to implement the Alberta First Responders Communications System (AFRRCS) for Protective Services and Emergency Management. This upgrade will enhance the communication capabilities of first responders, ensuring safety and efficient response times in emergencies.
Automated Traffic Enforcement Policy. The Automated Traffic Enforcement Policy (P-S-5) was approved, reinforcing the Town’s commitment to maintaining traffic safety through automated enforcement measures. Additionally, Council directed Administration to write a letter of support to the Government of Alberta, addressing safety concerns along the highway corridor and advocating for the continuance of the Automated Traffic Enforcement program in Edson.
2025 Franchise Fees Locked In. Council has maintained the current franchise fee rates for Fortis Alberta at 4.7% and ATCO Gas at 22.54%. Council approved an increase for Yellowhead Gas Co-op Ltd.’s franchise fee from 5.26% to 22.54%, ensuring consistent rates across gas services.
Support for the Edson Community Care Foundation. Council has approved a $10,000 funding request to assist the Edson Community Care Foundation with start-up costs, showing support for local initiatives that contribute to public health and community well-being. A member of Council will be appointed to the Foundation’s Sub Committee at the upcoming Organizational Meeting.
CRAA Advocacy. Council received the CRAA (Community Rail Advocacy Alliance) September Monthly Roundup as an information item.
