A wide load will travel between Scotford and Edson area next week.
 
Beginning on 27 April, the 103m long & 5.43m high load will leave the Scotford area on Wednesday and travel for 6 days to its destination, near Edson. There will be night travel in the Sherwood Park area and the Edson area.
 
The cargo, called a generator for is additional production of electricity for Alberta. It’s almost as long as a CFL football field and tall as a traffic light pole.
 
The load is expected to be in the Carrot Creek to Edson area May 1st. It will travel along highway 16 overnight May 3rd through Edson to Highway 47 and on to the project site. (subject to change)
 
  • The equipment is approx. 6.3m wide x 5.7m high x 103 m long.

  • The load will move with pilot vehicles and use the entire width of the driving portion of the highway.

  • The load will be moving below the posted speed limit and may pull over periodically.

  • Some areas require power line lifts, watch for additional workers on the ground, not focused on motoring traffic.

  • Drivers travelling behind the load will experience delays.

  • The load will occasionally travel against the flow of traffic, escorted by guide vehicles; lanes will be blocked off accordingly.

  • Drivers are reminded to watch for guide vehicles and flag people.
