Re-Entry Information

Posted on

The lifting of the Evacuation Order is being planned for 06:00 p.m. today, Thursday, June 15th, 2023.

This includes the Town of Edson and the remaining areas of Yellowhead County. Please check our websites for important re-entry information.

The wildfire risk has been reduced thanks to firefighting efforts and recent precipitation. There is no longer an immediate fire risk to the Town, but if conditions change, we must all stay alert and ready. As such, a 4 hour evacuation alert will remain in place for time being.

Basic EMS service will be available on return and the emergency department is working on re-opening with limited service. We’ll have updates as that progresses. Residents will need to make the decision if they are comfortable coming back with these reduced medical services available.

Residents must all be prepared for a reduction in other services and businesses that may not be open or open at reduced hours. Please contact the services directly for more information. Do not use the ECC 1-833 number for this purpose.

We have been notified that grocery stores and pharmacies plan to be open either tonight or tomorrow. Gas stations and other essential services are also working hard to open as soon as possible.

ATCO and Yellowhead Gas have crews in town ready to return service to homes. They are going door to door right now.

Bussing will be available from the reception centre, taking people back to their point of origin. More specifics to come.

Safety is a priority for re-entry. Please drive safe. We encourage people stagger their entry if possible. Wildfires are still active in the area. Please stay prepared for potential changes in the situation.

Emergency crews are still working in the area and could be for some time. Please give them space and allow them to operate.

For more re-entry tips and information, please check out re-entry package on the Town and Yellowhead County Websites. The package includes safety information, insurance information, and a list of contact numbers for utility services.
