The Town of Edson has added another important piece of equipment to assist in snow and ice removal, as well as gravel road maintenance in the summer months.

A new Komatsu grader has been added to the fleet and officially hits the streets today! The new grader will allow crews to utilize both machines during snow events where possible, and act as a backup so we’re not left without a grader if one has mechanical failure.

Council approved the purchase of a new grader in the 2023 budget after a thorough review of the Snow and Ice Control Policy last year and tying into their value of Service Excellence within Council’s Strategic Plan. The total cost of the grader, with options and warranty, was just over $450,000.

“Council is excited to see this new grader hit the streets as it will help keep our snow removal moving with less down time throughout the season.  Improving snow removal has been a focus for Council and Administration in recent years and we’re happy to see progress being made.  We are planning additional equipment enhancements to our fleet in 2024 as leases end on some of our current equipment.”

-Edson Mayor Kevin Zahara

Administration will continue to review the Snow and Ice Control Policy to ensure it’s adapting to the needs of the community.

Watch for a grader naming contest coming soon, which will coincide with National Public Works Weeks in May.
