The Town of Edson is pleased to announce that, thanks in part to federal investment of $326,250, upgrades at Glenwood Park will be proceeding this year.

The intention is to reinvent the recreational infrastructure at Glenwood Park to create a vibrant, accessible, inclusive outdoor space. This includes replacement of the wooden arena boards at the outdoor rink and creating a new multi-use facility with a cement base that can be used year-round for skating, basketball, pickleball, outdoor markets, fitness classes, and more.

Project Benefits

The facility will provide new opportunity for outdoor activities for those of all ages and abilities, and replace the aging infrastructure in Glenwood Park.  This new construction will also allow our Parks team to flood the rink earlier in the winter, thus, extending the outdoor skating experience.

Reinventing the community park will make the area more attractive to potential homeowners and has the potential to draw visitors to our community which provides other economic benefits. The Town of Edson believes it's critical to invest in our aging infrastructure, and create vibrant, inclusive spaces for residents of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and abilities.

About the Canada Community Revitalization Fund

The Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) is a two-year $500 million national infrastructure program to support communities across the country with projects that revitalize downtown cores and main streets, reinvent outdoor spaces, create green infrastructure and address accessibility of community space. PrairiesCan is administering the CCRF in Alberta.

“Our government continues to make investments through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund that help create modern gathering places for residents and visitors in cities and towns across the country, including here in rural Alberta.  This investment to revitalize Glenwood Park will support the development of a year-round multi-sport facility, creating an accessible community space where everyone can gather and connect. ”

- The Honourable Daniel Vandal, Minister for PrairiesCan.

“Public recreation spaces across Alberta are the heart of our communities, bringing people together, attracting visitors, and helping the local economy. Today’s investment in Edson’s Glenwood Park will make a difference by providing opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy an upgraded recreational space while supporting local businesses and attractions.”

- The Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance

 Strengthening Community

The Town of Edson is committed to recovering from the pandemic and continuing to thrive and grow into the future.

“These improvements to Glenwood Park will create some much needed recreational spaces on the west end of our community, giving more opportunities to residents in the Glenwood area and beyond. This will not only give the youth more options for recreation in that area year-round but will also provide a great outdoor space for markets, events, and other creative uses. We’re looking forward to working with all user groups to make this a space the community can be proud of.”

– Kevin Zahara, Mayor, Town of Edson
