Yellowhead Ag Society Delegation. The Yellowhead Agricultural Society presented their plans for a new indoor riding arena at the Rodeo Grounds. The group has also made a funding request of $300,000 from the Town for the facility.
2024 Budget. Council has approved the 2024 Capital Budget, and an Interim 2024 Operating Budget, set at 50% of the 2023 approved Operating Budget. By passing an interim budget, it will allow continued operations while also providing additional time to complete the detailed final budget, scheduled to be presented in the spring of 2024. The draft 5-year Capital Plan has also been accepted as information. Additional budget information can be found on our website at www.edson.ca/budget.
With the passing of the budgets, the Budget meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, 2023, has been cancelled.
Uncollectable Accounts. Administration reviews outstanding accounts on a regular basis and identifies accounts that remain uncollected. Council approved the write off of the 2023 uncollectable accounts in the amount $168.53.
FCSS Grants. Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Grants are applied for and given out each year at the recommendation of the FCSS Advisory Board and approval of Edson Town Council. LEAP society was granted $3,000 in July to provide summer camps for children with disabilities, leaving $9,300 in grant funds available. Council has accepted the recommendations and awarded the following grants:
- Edson United Church - $2,500
- Edson and District Community Learning Society - $1,600
- Edson Food Bank Society - $3,175
- Community Engagement Action Team Society - $2,025
Library Board Appointments. Council has appointed five public at large members to the Edson Public Library Board.
Next meetings – The next Council meeting is scheduled for December 5th, 2023, at 7:00 pm.
