Council Notes - March 19, 2024

Delegation – Moving Edson and Area. Moving Edson and Area (formally the Edson Seniors Transportation Society) Executive Director Dawn Mitchell briefed Council on the group’s rebrand, ridership, what they did during the 2023 Wildfire emergency, and plans into the future.

Delegation – Edson RCMP. RCMP Staff Seargent Christian Delisle gave a report to Council on crime statistics and had a discussion on RCMP priorities for 2024-2025.

Utility Bill Forgiveness. Council has denied a request from a resident for utility bill forgiveness after a leak caused a substantial increase is water use. However, a subsequent motion was approved to waive late penalties on that account for a period of 6 months to help give time to pay.

Special Events Policy. A new Special Events Policy has been approved by Council. The intent of the policy is to provide guidance in support of current practices for booking special events, facilitating the use of parks, open spaces, and roadways, while incorporating risk management principles.

Edson and District Leisure Centre (EDLC) Fire Alarm. Council has approved up to a maximum of $180,000 adjustment to the Capital Budget to complete the EDLC fire alarm system upgrade, to be funded from the Revenue Sharing Reserve. The upgrade became necessary following an inspection which identified major deficiencies in the fire alarm system. A 24-hour-a-day fire watch is required until the upgrades are complete to continue operations at the facility.
