Delegation - West Central Airshed Society. Gary Redmond of the West Central Airshed Society provided a brief presentation to Council on their activities in the region, as well as air quality trends in Edson, and potential future changes to monitoring activities in the area.

Tax Exemptions.  Council approved several municipal property tax exemptions. Upon application exemptions for municipal taxation for properties that meet certain criteria, such as seniors’ housing, charitable purposes, libraries, education, and religious worship can be approved by a Council as per the MGA. The following properties will now be property tax exempt for a period of 3 years:

  • Association Supporting Choices of People, Edson (SCOPE)
  • Core Child Care Society
  • Day Care Society of Edson
  • Edson Tumblers Gymnastics Club
  • McMan Youth, Family & Community Services Association
  • The Lions Club of Edson

FCSS Annual Report. Council accepted the 2022 FCSS Annual Report as information.

Community Peace Officer/Bylaw Officer. The appointment for Community Peace Officer/Bylaw was not approved.

YCE Multi-Plex Centre Preferred Concept. On advice from provincial grant representatives, Council has approved the submission of the cost-effective concept design for the grant application to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program without the gymnasium program area. Although the gymnasium space will not be a part of the grant application, Council has directed that it still be a part of the final design and tendering process. This will allow flexibility once the tender process is started if final costs become prohibitive.

Next meetings - The next Council meeting is scheduled for January 17th, 2023, at 7:00 pm.
